December 2022: A 22-year-old Palestinian is killed after being shot in a struggle with an Israeli policeman. January 2023: Another Palestinian aged 16 was shot outside his home during an army raid.
This year has begun as it ended, with the death of a Palestinian at the hands of the Israeli occupation forces.
Ammar Hadi Mufleh, 22 years old, was killed while struggling with an Israeli customs policeman, in the middle of the exchange of blows the policeman drew his gun and shot him five times at point-blank range. His body lay dying on the pavement as passers-by called for help to no avail. The Israeli authorities seized the young man's body. On the last day of the year, his family was able to say goodbye.
Thus ended the year 2022, one of the bloodiest years of the last two decades in the West Bank. 142 Palestinians were killed by the Israeli occupation forces in the occupied territories, 34 of whom were minors.
Days later, during a raid in the Balata refugee camp, 16 year-old Amer Abu Zeitoun was in the street, when he heard the army shooting he got scared and wanted to return home. He did not make it in time, when he crossed a corner he met an Israeli soldier who did not hesitate to shoot him several times in the head and torso, Amer did not even manage to take 3 steps before his body collapsed lifeless on the ground.
With the death of another Palestinian at the hands of the Israeli army, 2023 began, a year that is proving to be worse than the last.
